infrastices
Infrastices is a collaboration between myself and Hellen Ascoli. The piece was original shown at the Gallery Sol del Rio in Guatemala City in 2016.
The term infrastices is taken from a text by Mike Anusas and Tim Ingold.
“By infrastices we mean, all manner of electrical, chemical, and mechanical workings; their parts, structures, and conduits; and the energies, gases, and fluids they carry”.
In the piece a hand spun length of white cotton thread is pulled around a rust red room, displaying the inconsistencies in the craft. But the machine that moves the tread through the system will eventually break the thread and sound a dull chime in alarm. The hand crafted thread is kept from entering into a sustained relationship with industry.
