This was my personal dinning table while I lived in Chicago, stored for 5 years while in Guatemala then reunited in Madison.
The top is built with salvaged exotic woods from a lumber importer in Milwaukee, WI.
To avoid moisture build up exotic woods are shipped with small strips of wood in between the boards to let air pass through. This keeps the wood from bowing. These small strips are usually made of the same wood that is being shipped. Once the wood arrives the strips are discarded.
My interested in this reclaimed wood is not that it is 'environmentally friendly' to use waste, but in the economic and practical necessities that produce the system in which this waste is produced.
